Last Friday, at the second Dutch Service Innovation workshop, a group of professors and experts from the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), the technical universities of Delft, Twente and Eindhoven, the University of Amsterdam, the VU University Amsterdam, the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis, Nijenrode Business Universiteit and the Telematica Instituut emphasised that the subject of service innovation deserves a prominent place on the scientific agenda.
The Telematica Instituut, which organised the event together with RSM, is pleased with the growth of a scientific community and the partnership which is being launched. From a business perspective, the keynote speech was one of several contributions to emphasise that the service sector is wrestling with the relevance of innovation and that there is a desire for on-going support.
According to René van Buuren of the Telematica Instituut, science can play an important role: “Innovation is the ability to generate good ideas, but also to develop and market them properly. A company needs a lot of different competencies in order to be able to manage that. Science can help the services and ICT industries to get to grips with that process in a structural manner by developing the right methods and tools for companies to build modern innovation competencies and increase their innovative capacities.”
